July 29 – August 2, 2021
I am so excited! My registration is in. I’ve locked in my time for my pitch with an editor and will be joined with nine other wonderful authors. Full days of intensive training, panels with agents, editors, and art directors. Rare interviews with icons in the Children’s book field. Craft oriented presentations with handouts of points presented in the classes.
There are peer critiques, on-line socials and opportunities to sell your books. If you do nothing else in the writing community, go to a conference. Conferences are the best avenues for meeting your future. This is where you sell your babies. You learn to polish your books to a perfect shine. From writing to rewriting. From 1st draft to ‘the end’, the information you gather at this conference will amaze you. This is the place that an agent or an editor looks for and a lot of times, finds her or his idea book. The one you wrote. He or she can’t wait to send you a contract and auction your book to the biggest publishing house.
I have been to several conferences in the past twelve years that I’ve been writing. Whether serious or dabbling in my poetry, I have found these conferences to be worth more than the money I’ve paid in registrations. I’ve learned some of this stuff through experience. You’ll never find it in an MFA degree. The SCBWI conference has over fifty speakers over fifty topics that is presented over five days. If there is something you don’t know, you can bet, it’ll will get covered. If there’s a chance it won’t… write it down and ask. Someone will answer it. I guarantee.
Register. It’s worth it.
